Below, we explain what affects the price of a website, how much it costs to build one yourself or work with a freelancer or agency, and what to check before requesting a quote. Market figures come from price lists published in 2026.
What affects the price of a website
Two websites can look similar, yet one can cost ten times as much as the other. The difference almost always comes down to four factors.
- Number of pages. A one-page website costs much less to build and maintain than a site with dozens of pages. Every new page needs text, images and a review.
- Online shop. Payments, stock and delivery add to the work and the cost. If you only need customers to find you and get in touch, you don't need a shop.
- Text and photos. If new text needs to be written or photos taken, that work is included in the price. Having your own photos of your premises or work saves time and money.
- Who builds the site. Building it yourself on a platform, hiring a freelancer and working with an agency involve different costs and responsibilities.
For most restaurants, hairdressers, garages, artists and associations, a one-page website is enough: it says what you do, where you are, when you're open and how to reach you.
How much it costs to build a website yourself, with a freelancer or with an agency
Build it yourself on a platform
You pay a monthly fee for as long as the site exists, and you build it yourself. If you leave, you usually can't take the site with you: it stays on the platform.
With a freelancer
On a marketplace such as Zaask, a five-page business website is listed at €350 to €500. Check who owns the domain and files, and who will look after the site if the freelancer is no longer available.
With an agency
Guides from Portuguese agencies quote €600 to €2,500 for a one-page website and €2,000 to €5,000 for a simple company website. An agency makes sense for large sites with many pages or integrations.
With us
A one-page website, built and published by us, at a fixed price. See it finished before you decide, ask for the changes you want and only pay after you approve. The domain is in your name and the files are yours.
A one-page website or a site with several pages?
A site with several pages makes sense when you have a lot to show: a large catalogue, several services with long explanations, frequent news or a shop. For most local businesses, artists and associations, visitors want to know four things: what you do, where you are, when you're available and how to reach you.
A one-page website answers those questions in one place, with practical advantages:
- It opens quickly on a phone, even with a weak signal.
- Easy navigation: just scroll to find the information you need.
- It costs less to build and maintain, because there's less to update.
- It's easier to keep the information up to date: change the opening hours in one place.
If you ever need more, a good one-page website doesn't stop you growing: the text, the photos and the domain are still yours.
Ongoing costs after your site is built
Building the site is only part of the cost. These are the costs to expect each year.
- Domain: about €20 a year (your website address, such as tasca.pt). You pay this directly to your registrar.
- Hosting (Base plan): the space where your site is stored. With us, the first year is included; after that, it costs €19 a year.
- Cuidado and Cuidado+ plans: optional. Regular changes, visitor statistics and more, from €12 a month.
- Platform subscription: some services charge €19 or more a month for as long as the site exists. With VAT, that's about €561 over two years.
Before comparing quotes, add up what you'll pay over two or three years, not just the first month.
How much a website costs over two years
Building the site is only part of the cost. Compare the total over two years, excluding the domain (which costs the same whichever option you choose):
- Platform at €19 + VAT a month: about €561 with VAT over two years, and the site still isn't yours. If you stop paying, it disappears.
- With us · Base: €59 to build (€0 for the first 100), the first year of hosting included, and €19 in the second year. The Cuidado plans are optional.
What's included in our service
- A one-page website, built from your answers and adjusted until it's how you want it.
- Looks great on mobile.
- A WhatsApp button, so your customers can reach you with one tap.
- Contact form: messages arrive in your inbox, and we don't store them.
- Ready for Google: your title, description and business details in a format Google can read.
- A secure connection and a year of hosting.
- The site's files, to keep or take to another host.
Not included: the domain, which you register in your name with the registrar of your choice. We check whether the name you want is available and explain how to register it. When you buy a .pt domain, the registrar asks you to confirm your email and mobile number. It takes a few minutes.
The plans
Four options, and what each one includes:
- Try it: Free preview. No commitment until you approve.
- Base: €59 once (includes the first year), then €19 a year. The site is yours. 3 changes in the first 90 days. Extra pack of 3 changes for €25, valid for 90 days. Or take the files and host the site wherever you like.
- Cuidado: €12 a month or €120 a year. 5 changes a month, visitor statistics, the option to restore earlier versions and an alert if your site goes offline. Support: Email, 1 working day.
- Cuidado+: €24 a month or €240 a year. 15 changes a month, email @your-domain and WhatsApp support. Support: Email + WhatsApp, 1 working day.
Can an affordable website still be good?
Yes. A simple, carefully designed website can be affordable. What matters is that you can take it with you, it works well on mobile and its content is prepared for search engines. A well-built one-page website can offer all of this at an affordable price.
What a simple website should have, whatever the price:
- A design that works well on mobile, where most customers will visit it.
- A title, description and business details in a format Google can read.
- A quick way to reach you: phone, WhatsApp or a form.
- A secure connection.
- An address in your name, which you take with you if you move.
